2020: Is it over yet?

A message from our founder and director, Karen Borochowitz.

2020 has been a watershed moment in the lives of so many people. As the effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt abroad and in South Africa, our work at DementiaSA remains as relevant as ever. Despite the challenges of this year, we are filled with hope and the burning desire to assist in making a difference in the lives of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

The effect of the pandemic has been felt most extremely in families with members who are ageing. The elderly are most at risk with the virus and the corresponding feelings of isolation and aloneness have rendered one of our most vulnerable populations even more in need of assistance.

DementiaSA is proud to have risen from the ashes of lockdown to hear the call for greater support and care from the families we work with and created our virtual support groups. These run every Thursday on the Zoom platform and are open to everyone. Please email info@dementiasa.org to join us in the new year. We have also been running a series of informational webinars with experts on various topics. These online series’ give ordinary families access to experts that are usually extremely difficult to access and we are proud to have presented these topics in an online platform and also to allow the information longevity on our YouTube channel.

We look forward to the new year and continuing to uphold the dignity of people affected by dementia, with your assistance.
